Answer to What?

Calgary for 2009 is now the top 8 from this year's Calgary Stampede average standings, 8 spots to the CPCA , 18 spots to the WPCA, and 2 spots at the Stampede's discretion.

What?

What's going on with the spots for the Calgary Stampede? Saw Jim Nevada in the news saying he is selling out because of the unfairness, but I didn't catch the whole story. Does anyone know what's happening and who it will benefit? Are you racing Jim or are you really selling out as you say? Hope not. Good luck to everyone this year. I only see the CPCA doing great things in the future.

I go on this guest book the odd time to see if there has been changes to the association, or to get current events about the people involved who I grew up with.  I am involved in a couple other guest books for Rodeo and the one thing I have noticed about this guestbook is the negativity.  I believe that some of these people who are writing in maybe does not know the ins and outs of what goes into running an association from day to day.  It is a privilage to have a guest book, not a neccesaty.  I wish everyone great racing for the 2008 season and hope to see positve posts on here

Bigger Fan Hey Big Fan,  maybe you should just go to the tarp sales or get your people to call you.  I think the CPCA Folks are doing a heck of a job.  last year was good and it looks like this year is even better.  And why is this news so important?  Its only drivers names and sponsors.  Your creative writing is entertaining though.  Honour and Worship.  You must be connected to a driver. Wife maybe?  Iam sorry CPCA for being negative but Big Fans post is whiney.  Thanks for explanation of the tarp delay although it really doesnt matter to me.

Anyway I have followed the CPCA for a while and things are alot better than they used to be.

Good Luck to all drivers

big fan.. `m so anxious to know how the tarp sale went in saskatoon. was wondering why it takes you so long to post important news like this to the fans that honour and worship this sport. do you not respect your valued fans.. people that pay to go watch and support this association. i think its time you do the same. and if you don`t post this than i know exactly how much you value my opinion. respect your fans and delay no futher with the results of all that happens.  and thank you

Wagon Fan Look at the CPCA tarp auction numbers.   I heard that increase was better than any other tarp auction in wagon racing this year.  Way to go.  I had to leave half way through but those involved did a good job with the set up and the introductions.  Cant wait till race season.  How many drivers are actually racing this year?

I agree dude it looks like the CPCA has finally started to move forward with drivers and last year I heard there was extra money for special heats and outriders.
Hopefully the tarp sales are good.

the point's system for the CPCA if it is changed to the same as the WPCA will be set up like this.

If a driver finishes first in the night for aggregrate they would get say if there is 36 drivers they would get 36 points and as you go down it narrows so if you finish last you only get one point.

and it will vary the highest amount of points you can earn depending on the amount of drivers there are.

any more questions email me or post on here

For those that are so sure!

Dear people who have got it all figured out out there. I agree that yes neal is going to be a fierce competetor and a good addiction to challenge our top guys in the upcoming season. But lets not count our chicken before there hatched there are many drivers this is a totally different association. And this is not like calgary with total times this is with points so its a whole new ball game. I believe that he is going place high but only time will tell. Ps those who doubt are also underestimating our top guys. Lets not forget Buddy and Luke they were from hear and they kicked ass when they were hear or even more so over in the W.

The Racer'z Edge

36 drivers this year?  Whats the chance the big dogs will start hooking in the morning or will that be neccessary for the drivers going with 2 hooks?  CPCA Fans have got be excited about the 2008 season.  Think about it.  The Knights, Nolins, Preeces, Laboucane, Mistuing, Gorst, Haroldson, Nevada, Flad and Walgenbach along with up and comers like Debolt and Fisher.  Thats just the top end.  There will be a few surprises Iam sure but who is it going to be?  Any guesses?  Jamie Laboucane and Devin Mitsuing have good coaches and both looked good last year.  Gordon McCallum and Dale Michel are always consistent and Todd Baptiste always starts hard.  The top 12 in my opinion will be Neal Walgenbach, Ray Mitsuing, Wayne Knight, Gary Gorst, Brian Laboucane, Vern Nolin, Jim Knight, Shane Nolin, Jim Nevada, Ross Fisher, Tim Haroldson and Sean Debolt in that order.  Lets hope that the Calgary Stampede keeps the same qualifying format that they currently have and a !
few drivers have some success again in 2008

Question when you leave WPCA and join CPCA can you switch again or is there penalties?  As for the new rules it is ironic that such high penalties when a horse dies, but what about the Driver's Life I think Safety is the KEY issue at hand

Well I personally am appaled by the new rules that h3ave been brought out...there are things called Accidents and they do happen, unless it can clearly be stated that it was done on purpose there should be no fine at all for them...yes it is a loss that a horse dies BUT we can not let the animal activists and others run what we love and want to do. I think that it is complete crap.

wagon fanatic The new rules for the Rangeland Derby are out. What do you think of them? In my opinion, with the amount of money you can lose with one small slip up, you might aswell pull up and run behind or run 6 wide, to avoid any penalty. So leave all the green horses at home.  No more "spoke dancin" or "bangin a little steel". As Les would say.

The Racer'z Edge

If Wayne Knight raced in High River last year he would have earned enough points to have cracked the top 4 by seasons end and would have finished as Canadian Champ.  "In My Humble Opinion".

In 2008 Walgenbach, Mitsuing, Knight and Laboucane are likely to duel it out and Gorst will recover from his 2007 shortfall and be right there.  With another added competitior to the mix in Walgenbach, Laboucane may not want to wait until after the Calgary Stampede to make his late season surge.  Jim Nevada is a competitor and shouldnt be one to forget when you look at the top 10.  The Nolins are always very competitive and Shane will likely be guns a blazing after a late season ending injury and brother Vern will look to once again experience success in Calgary.

Regardless of how 2008 unfolds its going to be one exciting year in the CPCA

OUTSIDER LOOKIN IN Neal will clean house in the CPCA. Sorry to say it "a-ok" but 4th and lower  just isnt an option for him. These top guys in the CPCA better keep there socks pulled up and there noses clean if they want to run with Neal in the final heat each night. He has a deep barn with a ton of run to spare. I think Ray will be able to fend him off for a while. Does anyone disagree?

MAD SPONSOR Tyler Helmig still feels that Ray Mitsuing is at fault for causing the crash last summer at the stampede...I can't believe Tyler can sit there and blame Ray, Ray had no where to go...makes you wonder what's really going on!  You'd think Tyler of anybody would know the truth!  In my mind and many others I know....CPCA drivers are the most professional!  All my best to the Mitsuings, the Gorsts and the Helmigs even though I don't share Tyler's opinion which everyone has a right to that's why I shared mine.

38 drivers, uh. so are some of the guys with 2 hooks gonna be able to run them? that would mean you would have to have like 20 or so heats. or better yet, have a run off in little pine. run the whole year with 36 drivers. is this gonna effect the line up for calgary next year? will it be 50/50 between the cpca and wpca.

Old Days Barn Help I worked for 3 different drivers over a 10 year period and basically you are hired by the driver, given your duties and paid.  My pay was a monthly salary, but it depends if you are only working on weekends or staying at their place throughout the summer. Also check and see if room and board is part of it.  I did both where I was paid for weekends only and I also did it where I spent the whole summer with a driver (Weekdays and Weekends) and then was paid so much per month.  Hope this helps.  It is hard work, long hours but some of the best times you will ever have.

Wagon Boy Just to clarify a few things - Darcy Flad and David Bensmiller never drove with the CPCA but both started as outriders with the CPCA. Bert Croteau retired during the tarp auctions and David took his spot on the 2004 WPCA Dodge Pro Tour. Troy Flad statred as a driver with the CPCA and Chance Bensmiller started the 2005 season with the CPCA but moved to the WPCA and replaced Doyle Mullaney midway through the season
